GoPro Karma Drone delayed

The much anticipated new quadcopter from GoPro will miss its June launch party. In their Q1 earnings report CEO Nick Woodman had this to say.

Revenue exceeded our guide and, importantly, unit sell-thru rates were approximately 50% higher than sell-in which drove global inventory levels down. And while we had to make the difficult decision to delay our drone, Karma, the upside is that Karma’s launch should now benefit from the holidays.

I wonder if this delay is to onboard one of the detect sense and avoid companion computer makers. We already know the Karma has 4K video, again almost a standard these days.

DSA is really a standard thing now with the Yuneec H first to demonstrate in a mass market consumer drone and DJI and the Phantom 4 first to market with it. Really moving forward its a baseline thing.

That said it might be worth waiting for generation two which will no doubt be joining the playing field at the same time as Karma.
